Directed by Ananand L Rai, Atrangi Re stars Sara Ali Khan, Dhanush and Akshay Kumar as leads. The film has music by AR Rahman and is available in Disney+ Hotstar.
Atrangi Re | Galatta Kalyanam Review
(Not going to reveal a lot of details here).
In the end credits, Sara Ali Khan’s name is mentioned first followed by other actors. This shows the importance of her role. The whole film belongs to her and the actor has pulled off something brilliant here.
Sara as Rinku is the heart and soul of the film and is more like a storm. Dhanush as Vishu is more like that calmness to Rinku’s storm. Their chemistry works well and every single scene is elevated by AR Rahman’s brilliance. The music is more of the fourth main character in the film and it brings everything together. The screenplay is yet another USP of the film.
Akshay Kumar as Sajjad Ali Khan gets limited screen space compared to the other two main characters but he is more like a magic and does his work well.
Rinku and Vishu get married against their will and they decide to separate, go on their own path. Vishu is on his way to becoming a doctor while Rinku, on the other hand, is obsessed with Sajjid Ali Khan, a magician.
Sajjid Ali Khan enters the scene and the story takes an interesting twist.
There is humour, emotions and the film has thrown light on mental health as well, something very important.
The first half is breezy and is fun-filled while the second half takes a bit of an emotional turn.
This isn’t a usual story about a love triangle or odd-Bollywood drama. The director Aanand L Rai had promised something different and he had delivered the same.
The film certainly belongs to Sara Ali Khan. Especially, the climax. Dhanush, as usual, has done wonders with his part.
The film does have a few negatives, one of them is stereotypic, language humour. The other is we don’t get to see more about Vishu’s background and his family.
Overall, this is certainly an excellent OTT watch (although it might not work for everyone) and one film to be remembered for Sara Ali Khan.
