England bounced back stronger at the end of Day two to stay on top of the Test match on Thursday, the day two.
After a bit of collapse in the final session of Day 1, England did well to get to 396 for 9. The debutant Sophia Dunkley played well for her 74*, added an important partnership with Anya Shrubsole.
The latter took the aggressive route and smashed six fours and a six for her 47. She took only 33 deliveries and could’ve been the fastest to a half-century in Women’s Test.
For India, Sneh Rana had four wickets while Deepti Sharma had three.
In return, Indian openers dominated most part of the day. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 167 runs for the first wicket, the most for India in Tests. Shafali also broke quite a few records today.
Unfortunately, she got out four runs short of her maiden ton. Mandhana, on the other hand, went down for 78. Since her dismissal, India went on to lose three wickets in the final session.
The team now find themselves at 187 for 5 from 167 for 0. Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma are at the crease at the end of the day. The visitors trail by 209 runs.
For England, the skipper Knight had a couple of wickets while Sciver, Cross and Ecclestone had one each.
