Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma is ruled out of the upcoming South Africa Test series due to a hamstring injury. Gujarat’s Priyank Panchal has been named as his replacement.
Rohit Sharma, who took over the captaincy in White-ball cricket, was also named as the vice-captain for the South Africa Test series. The Indian opener has picked up the injury during India’s net practice right before entering Team India’s quarantine ahead of the South Africa tour.
This is the second time Rohit Sharma has injured his hamstring this year. Earlier, he had to miss a couple of Test matches against Australia after picking up a hamstring during the Indian Premier League.
Despite missing out on a few Tests, Rohit Sharma is the leading run-scorer for India in this year’s Test matches. He will be replaced by Gujarat’s Priyank Panchal. Panchal is the third opener in the squad announced by India for South Africa Test series.
The Gujarat opener has been around for a while now and was a part of India’s extended squad for the England home series recently. Panchal, 31, has played in more than 100 First-Class matches. Recently, he was the captain for the India A team that travelled to South Africa. he had 120 runs from his three outings.
