Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey will be stepping down from his role as chief of the social media company, effective immediately.
The company’s Chief Technology Officer Parag Agrawal will take over his position.
“I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders,” Dorsey said in a statement.
Dorsey, 45, co-founded Twitter in 2006 and served as its CEO until 2008 before returning to the position in 2015.
According to the company’s statement, Dorsey will remain a member of the Board until his term which expires in 2022.
