Sri Lanka and India locked horns in the 2nd T20I on Wednesday. The match was supposed to be held on Tuesday but since Krunal Pandya had tested positive for coronavirus, the match was pushed a day. Eight people who came in contact with him were tested immediately and had asked to enter isolation.
India batted first and had four debutants in the team- Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Chetan Sakariya.
Batting first, India couldn’t do much as they managed only 132 in their 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan made 40 from 42 while Gaikwad made 21. Padikkal batted well too, added 29 runs to the total.
Akila Dananjaya was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with two wickets to his name.
In return, Avishka Fernando went for 11. Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dasun Shanaka followed them soon. The wicket-keeper Minod Bhanuka made 36 runs while Dhananjaya de Silva was the star of the match.
The all-rounder scored an unbeaten 40 and took the team home in the final over of the match. The team needed eight runs from the last six balls and the team had won the match in 19.4 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav had two wickets to his name while other bowlers chipped in for a wicket each.
With this win, Sri Lanka have opened their account in the T20I series. Teams will be playing the deciding match on Thursday as scheduled.
