Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Shahrukh’s last-ball six take TN home

tamil nadu smat champions shahrukh khan

Tamil Nadu have successfully defended their trophy against Karnataka on Monday.

Two years ago, Karnataka ended on the right side of the result when they had won the match by one run. This time, it was Tamil Nadu. The team needed five runs from the final delivery and their main man Shahrukh Khan pulled it off from nowhere to take the team home.

Tamil Nadu began the contest well, thanks to Sai Kishore. The spinner dismissed both Rohan Kadam and Manish Pandey early in the innings. Sanjay Yadav then dismissed the in-form Karun Nair.

Abhinav Manohar and Praveen Dubey built the innings with Manohar scoring 46 and Dubey adding 33 to the total. A late flourish from the lower order took the team to 151 for 7.

Chasing a below-par total, Hari Nishaanth and Jagadeesan added 29 runs for the first wicket. Sai Sudharshan fell early as well. Jagadeesan and Vijay Shankar had the duty to rebuild the innings. The duo made sure not to lose a wicket but took more deliveries than they would’ve expected.

They both got out in back to back deliveries, adding more pressure on the lower order.

In the last four overs, the team was needing 12 runs per over and it seemed like they were losing the plot. Shahrukh Khan had other ideas. After taking down the total to the final over, he was confident enough to take them home.

The team needed 16 runs in the final over. Sai Kishore had a no-look boundary in the first delivery and then gave the strike back to Shahrukh Khan.

A couple of singles, two, a couple of controversial wides meant, the team needed five runs from the final delivery.

Shahrukh Khan got to the position early and flicked the ball for a six off the final delivery to help Tamil Nadu lift the trophy.
