Virat Kohli press conference: Had no prior communication of being removed as ODI captain

India Test captain Virat Kohli conducted a virtual press conference before leaving to South Africa.

Here are a few updates from the conference.

On ODIs availablity:

“I am available for ODIs against South Africa, never asked BCCI for rest.

“You should ask these questions who are writing these articles and sources – all these people who are writing are not credible”

On ODI captaincy:

“Contacted one and half hours before selection committee meet. The chief selector discussed the Test team. Before ending the call the selectors told me I won’t be ODI captain and I was okay. There was no prior communication”

“I have done the best I could in my captaincy, I take lots of pride in leading Team India – my motivation level to perform for the team will not dip. I have been honest to the responsibility and honest to the job”.

“I have always taken pride in leading India.”

On T20I captaincy:

When I approached BCCI about the T20 captaincy, it was received well by them and I was not told to not leave the T20 captaincy.

On Rohit Sharma’s absence from SA Tests:

“With his experience and skill, we will miss his presence. But, this also gives opportunities to new players to impress”

On Jadeja:

We all know Jadeja’s quality and he will be missed. But we have enough bench strength. As much as we will miss him, I am sure that will not be a deciding factor.

On Kohli-Sharma rift:

There is no problem between me and Rohit Sharma. I’m tired of saying these things for over 2.5 years.

On SA Test:

“South Africa was the start for us to start believing in that we can win overseas followed by Australia and England.”

“We are well placed and experienced to go and win a series in South Africa.”
