WBBL 07, Match 6: Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes

6th match of WBBL07 was played between Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Tuesday (October 19). Melbourne Stars won the toss and elected to bowl first.

In the first innings, the skipper of Hobart Hurricanes, Rachel Priest scored an unbeaten 107 runs off 68 balls, which included 10 fours and 7 sixes. Hurricanes lost early wickets of Ruth Johnston, Mignon du Preez, and Richa Ghosh.

By the end of the 7th over, Hobart Hurricanes were at 39 for 3 as Melbourne Stars looked in complete control. Tess Flintoff got Nicola Carey in the 15th over at 14 off 19. Naomi Stalenberg joined Priest in the middle and helped Hurricanes reach 152 in 20 overs. In the last over, Rachel Priest smashed Linsey Smith for a six and got her hundred in style. Annabel Sutherland got two wickets whereas, Smith and Flintoff got one wicket each

A terrible chase for Melbourne Stars as Hobart Hurricanes spinners bowled out Stars for 89. Molly Strano got dangerous Elyse Villani in the 1st over and Annabel Sutherland in the 3rd over. Captain Meg Lanning tried to keep the scoreboard ticking, but unfortunately, wickets kept falling on the other end. Ruth Johnston picked up 4 wickets for just 8 runs. Carey took two wickets. Tayla Vlaeminck and Amy Smith took 1 wicket each. Extraordinary performances from Rachel and Ruth helped Hurricanes register their first win of the season.

WBBL 07, Match 7: Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers

Match 7 was played between Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, on Tuesday (October 19). Perth Scorchers won the toss and asked Brisbane Heat to bat first.

Brisbane Heat openers Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne gave a wonderful start. By the end of the powerplay, Brisbane Heat was at 50 for 0. However, in the 8th over Sophie Devine came into the attack and got Harris for 34 off 30.

Georgia Voll joined Redmayne in the middle, scored 24 off 17 before getting caught by Taneale Peschel off Samantha Betts in 14th over. Heat lost three wickets of Laura Kimmince, Anne Bosch, and Mikayla Hinkley. Heat captain Jess Jonassen smashed 4 consecutive fours off Scorchers captain Devine in the last over. Redmayne scored unbeaten 59 off 52 which included 6 fours. Jonassen stayed not out at 19 off 6. Brisbane Heat finished their innings at 162 for 5 in 20 overs.

Nicola Hancock got the World No 1 T20I batter, Beth Mooney, for a golden duck in the 1st over. Jess Jonassen got Chamari Athapaththu in the 5th over at 11 of 14. Hancock took another big wicket of Sophie Devine and the collapse for Scorchers started. Brisbane heat bowled out Perth Scorchers for 103 in 17.2 overs. Hancock and Harris took three wickets each for 19 and 16 respectively. Poonam Yadav picked up two wickets whereas Jonassen and Georgia Prestwidge took 1 wicket each. Redmayne was announced as a player of the match for her 59 runs and four catches.

WBBL 07, Match 8: Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers

The 8th match of WBBL07 was played between Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers in Hobart on Wednesday (October 20). Melbourne Renegades won the flip bat and elected to bat first.

The first boundary for Renegades came in from Rodrigues’ bat in the 4th over by hitting a beautiful cover drive. Sophie Molineux and Courtney Webb got out in the 5th and 6th over off Sarah Coyte and Jemma Barsby respectively.

Jemimah and Harmanpreet tried to build up the partnership. However, Jemimah got out in 10th over off Amanda at 13 off 17. Darcie Brown got Kaur in 15th over at 41 off 37 which included 4 fours and 1 six.

By the end of the 17th over Renegades was at 91 for 5. Kaur’s 41 and Jones’ 39 unbeaten off 29 helped Renegades reach 126 for 6. Sarah Coyte took 3 wickets. Brown, Barsby, and Wellington took 1 wicket each.

Dane van Niekerk gave a wonderful start to the Adelaide Strikers. After hitting 3 consecutive fours in the 4th over, she got out off Ellie Falconer at 29 off 14 balls which included 7 fours.

Harmanpreet Kaur got Katie Mack in the 6th over. Tahlia McGrath joined Laura Wolvaardt in the middle and from there on, they took off. In-form, McGrath smashed an unbeaten 50 off 39 balls which included 3 fours and 1 six, and Laura Wolvaardt stayed not out at 36 off 39. This fantastic partnership of 82 runs helped Adelaide win the match by 8 wickets. Ellie Falconer and Harmanpreet Kaur took 1 wicket each. While fielding, Renegades vice-captain Georgia Wareham got injured and now, she is ruled out of this WBBL season. Certainly, a huge blow to Melbourne Renegades!

WBBL 07, Match 9: Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Sixers

Match 9 of WBBL07 was played between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Wednesday (October 20). Sydney Sixers won the bat flip and elected to bowl first.

In the 1st innings, Elyse Villani hit two boundaries off Ellyse Perry in the 2nd over. Annabel Sutherland in the next over hit 3 boundaries off Maitlan Brown. However, Ashleigh Gardner got Villani in the 1st ball of the 4th over at 10 off 6. In the powerplay, Stars scored 34 for 1. Brown got Meg Lanning in the 11th over at 10 off 19. Sutherland smashed 3 fours off Stella Campbell in the 13th over. However, Gardner in the next over gave a breakthrough to sixers by taking Sutherland’s wicket. Annabel scored important 57 0ff 50 which included 9 fours. Maia Bouchier and Kim Garth build up a steady partnership and helped Stars reach 139 for 3 in 20 overs. Bouchier and Garth stayed not out at 32 off 25 and 24 off 21 respectively. Gardner picked up two wickets and Campbell took 1 wicket.

While chasing, the Sixers had a terrible start as Shafali Verma got out in the 1st over off Kim Garth. Gardner joined and immediately hit 2 fours in the 2nd over off Tess Flintoff. Right when Alyssa Healy was looking good, Sutherland came into the attack and took her wicket at 14 off 13.

In the 10th over, Sophie Day picked up Ash Gardner’s wicket at 31 off 33. Ellyse Perry was joined by Nicole Bolton. However, Flintoff bowled out Bolton in the 15th over, and the very next ball, Flintoff got Brown for a duck. By the end of the 16th over, the run rate was 13.00. Perry hit a boundary in the 19th over but it was too late as 36 was needed from the last 6 balls. Garth took Perry’s and Yadav’s wicket in the last over.

Melbourne Stars won their 1st game of the season by 30 runs. Kim Grath picked up 3 wickets and Tess Flintoff took 2 wickets. Linsey Smith, Sutherland, and Sophie Day took 1 wicket each. Annabel Sutherland was the player of the match.

After 9 matches, Adelaide Strikers is leading the point table by 4 points followed by Sydney Sixers.
