We would have seen Jhulan Goswami doing wonders with the ball, but this time things were different. Yes, she has produced cameos in the past to save the team, but this was special.
On June 28th 2015, India hosted New Zealand at Bengaluru in the first ODI. Mithali Raj won the toss and had opted to bat first but soon regretted the decision.
The New Zealand bowlers had found a way to dismiss the top order of the Indian team and within an hour, the team was 87 for 8 and needed a miracle. Jhulan Goswami took the job and played an excellent knock to give the team some hopes.
She had six fours and a six to score 57 from 67 deliveries and was the last wicket to fall in the 45th over.
For New Zealand, Tahuhu, Nielson and debutant Kasperek had three wickets each.
In return, India attacked with Jhulan from one end and Ekta from the other. New Zealand began to lose wickets and Ekta was the hero. However, Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine pushed the team to some extent but couldn’t carry on until the end.
Kaur dismissed Devine and Perkins (wrong decision, well!) and Bates got out for 28 to an excellent delivery from Gayakwad.
Kasperek gave the team a bit of hope and made 21* but it wasn’t enough as India removed her partner to win the match by 17 runs.
For India, Sneh Rana was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to her name while Kaur and Bisht had two each.
