White Ferns award contracts for six new players

White Ferns have announced the contract list for the upcoming season, 2022-2023.

In an aim to build a young team, the NZC have offered annual contracts for six new stars. The Auckland Hearts duo Fran Jonas and Molly Penfold, who have already played for White Ferns have been contracted.

The retirement of legendary Katey Martin has opened the doors for Izzy Gaze. Apart from that, Northern Brave’s Nensi Patel and Otago Sparks’ Eden Carson find themselves with a contract.

Eden Carson played a major role in Otago Sparks’ run in this year’s domestic season. On the other hand, Nensi Patel was awarded the domestic player of the season for her all-round performance this year.

Wellington Blaze batter Georgia Plimmer was offered a contract as well. Plimmer had an excellent domestic season which helped her to get into the World Cup squad as the like for like replacement for Lauren Down.

On the other hand, the Canterbury trio Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu and Frankie Mackay along with Leigh Kasperek and Thamsyn Newton have missed out on receiving the contract renewal.

NZC GM of High-Performance Cricket, Bryan Stronach said: “It’s never easy coming up with a final 17 players. Having said that, we’re excited about the six new faces receiving contract offers, several of whom already have some WHITE FERNS experience under their belt. To be in a position in which we’re genuinely considering the credentials of a wider pool of players can only be viewed as a positive for the women’s game.”

White Ferns contracted players for 2022-23 year

Suzie Bates, Eden Carson, Sophie Devine, Lauren Down, Izzy Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Hayley Jensen, Fran Jonas, Jess Kerr, Melie Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Jess McFadyen, Nensi Patel, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe
