Legendary Tennis star Maria Sharapova has announced her retirement from the international Tennis.
Sharapova, 32, wrote an article exclusively announcing her retirement in the Vogue and Vanity Fair.
“Tennis-I’m saying goodbye”, she wrote. “After 28 years and five Grand Slam titles, though, I’m ready to scale another mountain – to compete on a different type of terrain,” she added.
She was one of the gifted players of the game and her career saw downfall after serving a 15-month ban for failing a drugs test at the 2016 Australian Open. The Russian former world number one’s ranking is currently 373rd.
She suffered from a shoulder problem which seems to be bothering her for a long time now.
She took to Instagram to share a throwback image and wrote: Tennis showed me the world—and it showed me what I was made of. It’s how I tested myself and how I measured my growth. And so in whatever I might choose for my next chapter, my next mountain, I’ll still be pushing. I’ll still be climbing. I’ll still be growing. (sic)
