Chennai corporation makes wearing mask mandatory

The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that people have to wear a mask when they step out of their house as a precautionary measure to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.

If people come out without wearing mask, their vehicles will be seized for three months and the permit will be cancelled said the announcement.

Corporation commissioner G Prakash said that the order comes into effect immediately. “It is hereby ordered under the relevant statutes of the Epidemics Control Act and Public Health Act that all persons are to wear masks compulsorily once they step out of their homes. As long as the public are moving outside, they’ve to wear it. If found without masks, then their movement passes will be cancelled and vehicles will be impounded for three months. This comes into effect forthwith,” he said.

Earlier today, the Tamil Nadu government has extended the lockdown till the end of this month and they have said that the essential services will continue to operate from 6 am to 1 pm.

As on today, the number of cases in the state stands at 1173 with 98 cases being reported in the last 24 hours.
