Tayla Vlaeminck ruled out of NZ series, WBBL

Australian pacer Tayla Vlaeminck will be missing out the home series against New Zealand as well as Women’s Big Bash League.

Vlaeminck is yet to recover from the ankle injury she sustained during the 2020 World Cup that forced her to miss the tournament.

Maitlan Brown, an industrial designer who plays for Melbourne Renegades got her maiden call-up alongside Belinda Vakarewa.

The 18-player squad also includes Ellyse Perry who will be returning after her injury in the World Cup. However, her condition needs medical assessment.

“Tayla had a recurrence of right medial ankle pain three weeks ago as she was working through her rehab from the navicular stress fracture she sustained in February,” Australian physiotherapist Kate Beerworth said.

“Ellyse is progressing well from a significant hamstring injury and we want to give her every chance to be available for selection, so we’ll continue to monitor her progress over the coming weeks”, she added.

Brown had 16 wickets in the last WBBL season and also did well for Australia A.

The tour includes a three-match T20I series due to start on September 27 with all the games played at North Sydney Oval followed by three ODIs in Townsville, Cairns and the Gold Coast although the fixture list remains subject to change.

This will be the first match since the World Cup final for Australia and if England’s series talk with West Indies doesn’t go through, this will be the return of women’s cricket-excluding Austria vs Germany series-after pandemic.
