Sonam becomes youngest female Indian wrestler to qualify for Tokyo 2020

The eighteen-year-old Sonam Malik on Saturday became the youngest Indian female wrestler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. 

On the other hand, nineteen years old Anshu Malik book her slot as well.

Sonam and Anshu Malik reached the finals of 62kg and 57kg respectively to book their berths for the Tokyo Olympics.

Sonam took on World championships bronze medallist Ayaulym Kassymova of Kazakhstan, were 0-6 at one point before winning the match by 9-6 to ensure her place in the Games.

She didn’t fight in the final and settled for silver.

The Nineteen-year-old Anshu defeated Jieun Um of South Korea 10-0 and Emma Tissina of Kazakhstan 10-0 in Group A matches and Shokhida Akhmedova of Uzbekistan 12-2 in the semifinals to make it to the Olympics.
