IPL 2025 temporarily suspended

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended the ongoing IPL 2025 season amid rising tensions in the subcontinent due to the India-Pakistan Border strikes. A formal announcement was made late on Friday evening, confirming that the tournament will remain on hold until further notice.

Notably, the league might continue during the September window. BCCI is also exploring other countries for the tournament, where South Africa is the frontrunner.

IPL 2025 had completed 58 matches at the time of suspension, including the abandoned fixture in Dharamsala. Twelve group-stage matches were still left to be played across venues like Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs were originally scheduled to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata later this month.

PSL to resume in UAE amid similar tensions

The Indian Premier League isn’t the only major tournament affected by geopolitical tensions. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has also faced major disruptions due to military escalations in the region. However, the PCB confirmed that the PSL will resume shortly in the United Arab Emirates, with all remaining games shifted out of Pakistan for security reasons.
