CSA appoints Graeme Smith as acting director of cricket

Former South African captain Graeme Smith has been appointed as South Africa’s first director of cricket, a position formed right after South Africa men’s team’s forgettable performance in 2019 World Cup. Smith has signed on for three months and will begin work immediately, with two weeks to go before South Africa play England in a four-Test series at home, starting on Boxing Day, followed by three ODIs and as many T20Is.

However, Smith’s future in this position is a temporary role as he is a part of the commentary team for the Indian Premier League.

This means he will not be working towards the 2020 World Cup T20 of both men and women. His first duty will be forming the selection panel and the coaching staff for the men’s team.
