Commitment: Malinga travels from Mumbai to Sri Lanka, plays for his domestic team within hours after MI’s win

We have seen cricketers and their commitments and there is Lasith Malinga.

In a year or two, Sri Lankan pacer has seen it all. He was dropped from his international side, then he came back with a vengeance, provided good performance for his team and was promoted as the captain.

However, the Sri Lankan selectors wanted their players to play in the domestic tournament and announced that it will be the major selection criteria for the world cup squad thus Malinga opted to play for the domestic tournament and was ready to miss the first six games. After BCCI’s meeting with the SLC selectors, Malinga was later released to play in the IPL.

The 35-year-old pacer appeared in two matches this season and though wasn’t at his best, he was able to provide Mumbai Indians two crucial victories.

Now, the pacer has taken a U-turn and is all set to play in Inter-Provincial Tournament captaining his Galle’s team.

“Yes, he (Malinga) will be reaching Sri Lanka tomorrow (4th April) and will be available for the provincial tournament,” Sri Lanka’s chief national selector Ashantha de Mel told Sportstar.

The pacer who is eyeing for the captaincy in the World Cup has shown an incredible amount of commitment by flying to Sri Lanka right from Mumbai after his team’s victory over Chennai Super Kings last night.

He reached Sri Lanka early morning and is leading his Galle’s team, plays two matches within 12 hours, proving us all that age is just a number. Undoubtedly an inspiration!

He now might miss Mumbai’s next few matches and Mumbai Indians are uncertain about Malinga’s availability.
