Concussion rules Smith out; Labuschagne becomes 1st Concussion substitute in Tests

Steve Smith has suffered ‘late concussion’ and will stay out of the Lord’s Test. He is also doubtful for the next Test at Leeds.

Smith will be replaced by Marnus Labuschagne, who thereby becomes the first-ever concussion substitute in the international cricket.

“Smith passed a series of concussion tests after the incident and resumed his innings, but woke this morning with a “bit of a headache and a feeling of grogginess”, said the report.

Smith, batting on 80, was hit on the neck by a searing Archer bouncer. Despite coming back to bat after minutes, Smith wasn’t feeling well the next day.
