Varavara Rao granted bail in Bhima Koregaon case

The Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail to 82-year-old activist Dr. Varavara Rao on medical grounds.

He has been asked by the court to remain in Mumbai and be available for investigation whenever needed and has been directed not to indulge in any activities or similar activities which led to the registration of the FIR.

The case, being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), involves allegations of provocative speeches made at the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune on December 31, 2017.

A bench of Justices S S Shinde and Manish Pitale ordered that Rao be discharged from the hospital, depending on his current health condition, and released on bail immediately after his discharge.

He also will not be allowed to talk to any form of media.
