75 Districts in India to go under Lockdown until March 31st

As per the press note from the high level meeting held by Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, with Chief Secretaries of all the states, it was agreed that there is an urgent need to extend restrictions on the movement of non-essential passenger transport, including inter-state bus transports till March 31st, 2020, in the view of the need to contain the spread of COVID 19.

Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh are major states in a position to lockdown about 75 districts in their territory.

Following the detailed discussions, the state governments were advised to issue appropriate orders to allow only essential services to operate in 75 districts which have reported confirmed cases or casualties relating to COVID 19. The state government may expand the list departing their assessment of the situation. It was noted that several state governments have already issues orders in this regard.

It is decided to suspend all train services till 31st March, 2020, including sub-urban rail services, Metro rail services, inter-state bus transport and allow only essential services to operate in about 75 districts in India with confirmed COVID 19 cases. However, Goods trains are exempted.
