Breaking: Pakistan’s Nasir Jamshed jailed for 17 months over spot-fixing

Former Pakistan cricketer Nasir Jamshed was jailed for 17 months after pleading guilty to bribing fellow cricketers as part of a Twenty20 spot-fixing scheme.

Jamshed, 30, was arrested alongside two other men — Yousef Anwar, 36, and Mohammed Ijaz, 34 — last February as part of a National Crime Agency probe into alleged spot-fixing.

The other two men- Anwar was sentenced three years and four months whereas Ijaz was sentenced two years and six months.

Jamshed encouraged other players to fix a Pakistan Super League (PSL) game in February 2018 by getting batsmen to avoid scoring runs from certain balls in return for a share of £30,000.

Jamshed was previously banned from playing cricket for 10 years following an investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s anti-corruption unit.
Two other players, Sharjeel Khan – who carried out the PSL fix – and Khalid Latif, received five-year bans.
