Unfortunate RCB have not won the IPL: Rohit Sharma

Five times Indian Premier League winner and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said that it’s unfortunate that Royal Challengers Bangalore has not won an IPL yet.

Speaking with David Warner in an Instagram live session, the Mumbai Indians skipper said that this year Virat Kohli’s team has got their best team in the last ten years of IPL in reply to a question from the fans. While Rohit was not sure whether RCB will win the trophy this year, he revealed that in Mumbai Indians they plan more for Kohli’s team than any other franchise.

“I don’t know about that (whether RCB will IPL 2020). We sit and plan for RCB more than any team. Their batting line-up is unreal. To have that batting line-up… our team meeting goes on for a couple hours when we play against them,” Rohit Sharma said.

He added that all the eight teams have balanced squads and he hopes that the IPL would happen. “So I was sitting and analysing all the composition of the different squads. All of them have balanced squads. That’s something we can hope for… the IPL to happen,” he said

On playing in closed stadiums Rohit said that it could be norms for the sporting fraternity at least for sometime post-COVID19. He also asked Warner about his experience of playing without crowd in an One Day International against New Zealand.

Australia played the first of three ODIs against New Zealand in an empty stadium before cancelling the tour due to the pandemic.

Warner said that it was like playing a warm-up game and it was not that hard to get out and play. “You hit a shot and all you hear is the echo of the cricket ball. You might hear one or 2 boys clapping. It was really bizarre. You’re used to calling ‘yes-no’. I was like ‘you don’t have to say that loud anymore’,” he said.

The Australian opener said that the game was good, however, he was not sure about how long it can be sustained as teams gain momentum from crowd support.

Warner added that he does not know what it is going to be like to come to India and play the IPL if it is scheduled later this year. “I don’t know what it’s going to be like if we are going to come there and the IPL is going to be played later this year. But the governments are doing this for the right reason. Lives are being lost,” Warner said.
