Cricket World Cup 2019

ENG v WI, 1st T20I Preview | Women Cricket

After a long hiatus due to coronavirus pandemic, England and West Indies will kick off their international season today with the first of five T20Is.

We had a couple of false starts before this tournament and England have been practising for a while now, there were multiple intra-squad matches to get the team back in track. The major stars also played a couple of games in the RHF Trophy and almost back.

With game experience and the form, England certainly is the formidable side but you cannot just ignore West Indies, no, not in this format.

England and West Indies have faced each other 17 times in T20Is and WI have won 9 times with one super over win. England have won all their previous three meetings including the one in the World Cup T20I recently. WI’s last win came in 2018 November.

At home, England have won 5 times out of six games. Their only loss came in 2012.

West Indies is going through a lean patch, having won only 8 matches in their last 30. They did come close quite a few times but couldn’t get through. For the team, the openers have let them down multiple times and for England, the openers have done well scoring 30+ runs on an average in recent times.

Danielle Wyatt has the most number of runs against West Indies among the active England players. Nat Sciver comes next with 168 runs. She won the player of the match in their last meeting. Shrubsole tops the wicket list for England against WI.

For WI, Taylor and Dottin have 300+ scores against England. Taylor once again tops the bowling figures as well.

Going into this match, there will be an over-dependency on Taylor, Maththews, Dottin as usual and it will be interesting to see how they go here.

For England, Ecclestone ended up with 3 wickets in their last meeting and most of the team is in good touch.

This is going to be an interesting contest for sure with England having a slight edge.
