New Zealand legends: Betty Maker

Betty Maker was born on December 10th 1925 in Australia. She went on to represent Victoria for years before moving to Wellington in 1958.

She began to represent Wellington since then. She was an opening batter and also has opened the bowled for her domestic side.

The left-arm pacer went on to make her debut for New Zealand in the famour tour to England in 1966. She was 40 at that time.

While Maker didn’t shine with the bat, she went on to pick 5 wickets in the tour. When Burley picked up 7 wickets and almost won the 1st ever Test for New Zealand, Maker was bowling well at the other end and picked up a wicket as well. Unfortunately, the rain saved England that day.

New Zealand went on to draw all the three Tests.

Maker was also involved in Squash and was a Typist. She passed away in 2004.
