FIH Series Women’s finals: India starts off with a win; defeats Uruguay 4-1

India had a winning start to the Series Women’s final with a 4-1 score against Uruguay at Hiroshima on Saturday.

The Indian women were on a role right from the word go and at the tenth minute of the match, captain Rani Rampal flicked one from the edge of the circle for a goal.

11 minutes later, Gurjit Kaur lit the crowd up with a penalty corner taking India to a 2-0 lead. With some intense contest right at the middle, The Indian defender Nisha made her international debut and did an excellent job for India.

What followed was the goal of the match in the third Quarters with Jyoti scoring her first of the match and a whole lot of credits must go to Neha and Vandana for setting it up.

The start of the third quarter didn’t go well for India as Viana Ache Maria Teresa took advantage from the midfield to open the account for Uruguay.

Four minutes later, Lalremsiami put India to 4-1 who was as good as Maria Teresa.

Though India had a lot of positives in the game, glitches during the defence can play the spoilsport as the tournament progresses.
