Kohli fined for breach of code of conduct

Indian captain Virat Kohli was fined 25% of his match fee and was awarded a demerit point by the umpires for breaching the code of conduct as he advanced aggressively towards the umpire Aleem Dar while appealing for an LBW during the match against Afghanistan on Saturday.

He was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in Southampton and Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Excessive appealing during an International Match”.

Now, Kohli’s demerit points move to two. His first demerit point came on 15th January 2018 against South Africa.

It was during when Kohli continued to complain to umpire Michael Gough about the ball being affected by a damp outfield following a rain delay, before throwing the ball into the ground in an aggressive manner. He was fined 25% of his match fee with a demerit point for breaching the code of conduct under Article 2.1.1 which relates to ‘conduct contrary to the spirit of the game’.

Kohli should be careful as two more demerit points can put him under the scanner of missing a match.
