CSK vs DC – MS Dhoni fined Rs 12 Lakh for slow over rate

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was handed over a fine Rs 12 Lakhs for slow over rate in their first match of Indian Premier League.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh,” a statement from the IPL read.

According to IPL 2021 Code of Conduct, BCCI wants teams to finish bowling their quota of 20 overs within 90 minutes in uninterrupted matches.

In fact, CSK bowled only 18.4 overs in their opening game against Delhi Capitals. The latter went on to defeat CSk convincingly by 7 wickets, thanks to Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan.

Earlier, Avesh Khan and Chris Woakes dismissed CSK openers and then Ali, Raina along with cameos from lower order helped CSK to get to decent score.

In reply, Shaw and Dhawan took on bowlers, added 138 runs for 1st wicket and helped the team to cross the line with ease.

CSK will take on PBKS next on April 16.
