Shafali Verma could play in The Hundred

Indian cricketer Shafali Verma could become the fifth Indian player to play in The Hundred. The World Number T20I batter is on the radar for at least one as a potential replacement player in the event of any last-minute withdrawals.

Recently, four Indian players- Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur- have signed the deal for The Hundred and will play for Southern Brave, London Spirit, Northern Superchargers and Manchester Originals respectively.

The official announcement for the same is expected in the upcoming days as BCCI already sent the No Objection Certificate to the England Cricket Board.

However, the travel concern is still there due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to reports, the Indian players are expected to gather by May end for their tour to England where the team will be playing one-off Test as well. The players who have signed for The Hundred will be staying after the England tour.

If Verma, India’s youngest T20I debutant in men’s or women’s cricket, gets a contract at the Hundred, it would be her first in any overseas T20 competition.

Kaur, Mandhana, Rodrigues and Sharma were four cricketers from India who had played in the now-defunct Kia Super League (KSL).
