Police custodial deaths of Father-Son in Sathankulam town, Tuticorin in Tamil nadu, has been creating a strong outrage in the state. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi Pazhanisamy assigns the case to be investigated thoroughly by CB-CID recently. The main accused cop, Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh has been arrested now.
As per the update to NDTV by Inspector General (CB-CID) Shankar, “FIRs have been altered to 302 IPC. 12 special teams under IG and SP (CB-CID) are investigating all angles. One main accused – Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh – has been arrested and is being remanded. Search and arrest parties are being formed to arrest the remaining,”
There are 3 more cops who are alleged to be part of this brutality. The CC TV footage of the alleged torture on June 19 in the custody is found to be deleted. Madurai Court has asked CB-CID to take over the case after the horrifying details presented to them. CB-CID files two separate FIRs for the death of the father, Jeyaraj and the son, Benix against the Sub Inspectors Raghu Ganesh and Balakrishnan, which was just a suspicious death case when it was handled by the TN police.
A prominent witness constable who is willing to testify against this police brutality and the part played by the police. To protect the safety of the witness, the court asked to give them the police security.
Father, Jeyaraj, 59 and his son, Beniks, 31 were arrested on June 19 for keeping their shops open for 15 mins longer during lockdown. The police stakes that the two resisted the arrest. The two are put through brutal treatments in police custody. They endured severe wounds including rectal bleeding. Benicks and Jeyaraj died of this agonizing inflicted wounds one after the other on June 22.
