Another elephant death likely due to crackers in Kerala

Recently in Kerala, a tragic incident happened as a pregnant elephant died after it ate a pineapple which had fire cracker. The cracker exploded in its mouth.

The forest official who tried his best to rescue the animal took to social media to share the tragic news. Since then there was massive outrage.

Now, it looks like this is not the first time. In April, a death of elephant was reported but the cause of the death was unknown.

A post-mortem shows this elephant suffered jaw fractures that “could have been through something it consumed,” but it is not confirmed yet. Forest officials say a chemical analysis report is awaited. “We suspect it to be crackers,” a senior forest official told NDTV.

Talking about the pregnant elephant, an FIR was filed against the unidentified people who caused the death under animal welfare.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also said strict action would be taken against those responsible for the elephant’s death.

“The forest department is probing the case and the culprits will be brought to book,” Mr Vijayan said.
