COVID19: Passenger from UK tested positive in Chennai

A passenger who has recently travelled fron the UK to Chennai via Delhi has tested positive for coronavirus.

The sample of the passenger has been sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune to check the new strain. The passenger was already in quarantine and now has been sent to Kings Institute.

So far 14 passengers have been identified who returned from UK and are being monitored.

India has banned all flights from the United Kingdom after the discovery of a new and more infectious coronavirus strain spreading in the country.

The air travel ban will stay till 23:59 pm on December 31. The suspension of all UK flights will begin from 23:59 pm today. The decision to suspend all UK flights was taken considering the “prevailing situation on the UK”, the government said.
