Federer saves 7 Match points, reaches semifinals

It was one hell of a day if you are a Roger Federer fan. He started competitively well by taking the first set. Though was a par performance, it was good enough to get past Sandgren.

However, Sandgren came back harder in the second set and Federer’s groin issue wasn’t helping him as well. The world number three slowed down, gave away the second and third set to Sandgren.

Nobody even remembers the last time Federer took a medical timeout on court. It was that long. However, today, Federer was forced to take one after his movement was completely affected by the issue.

In the third set, which went neck-to-neck, Federer found a way to save multiple match points and pushed the match to the fifth set.

Visibly disappointed Sandgren started to slow down and on the other hand Federer kept finding his way to bounce back. Eventually, he grabbed the fifth set and won one of the best matches of this year’s open. He awaits the winner of Djokovic-Raonic clash.
