After heartbreak in the semifinals, the Indian cricket team plays their first tour in the Caribbean. After dominating the T20 series 3-0, the first game in the one-day format was washed out due to bad weather conditions.
The teams then moved to Port of Spain for the second ODI of the tour. India batted first, Rohit and Dhawan opened the innings, and the latter who came back from an injury failed to get going. Then came in the Indian run-machine Virat Kohli who looked firm on the crease. With some small partnerships with Rohit and Pant, the scorecard kept ticking. Shreyas came in at #5 and played a good role with the skipper.
Kohli ended the 165-day wait for his 42nd ODI ton, and Shreyas made a handy 71 which did put the visitors in a good position before those two went back to the pavilion.
Shifting gears towards the end was difficult for the Indian batsmen as they were only able to score only 67 runs in the final 10 overs of the innings. Carlos Brathwaite picked up 3 wickets for the Windies and Cotrell, Chase and Holder picked up one each.
Windies came out to bat with a target of 280 on the board. The Windies failed to build big partnerships from the beginning, wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. At one stage, Pooran and Lewis were looking good at the middle but Kuldeep got better of Lewis and the Windies collapsed there. Indian bowlers bowled very well and restricted them to a total of 210.
Bhuvaneswar Kumar was the pick among the bowlers as he picked 4-31 in his 8 overs. Shami and Kuldeep picked 2 each, whereas, Khaleel and Jadeja picked a wicket each. Virat was awarded the MoM award for his match-winning knock of 120.
