James Anderson becomes 1st pacer to take 600 Test wickets

England’s James Anderson, on Tuesday, became the first pacer and only the fourth bowler overall to pick up 600 Test wickets. The previous three bowlers to do it – Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Anil Kumble.

Anderson reached the milestone when he dismissed Pakistan’s captain Azhar Ali for 31 in the second innings. Joe Root completed the catch in the slips.

On the fifth day of the Test, Pakistan is now following on. Anderson could have reached the feat on Day 3 or Day 4 but some poor fielding, as well as bad light, stopped him to do so.

He is also the only active bowler among the top-five list of most number of Test wickets. Stuart Broad is the next active player in the top ten and he has 514 wickets in his career. Interestingly, Broad touched the 500 mark recently in the last series against West Indies.
