Yes, you read that right. India suffered an awkward moment when both the youngsters walked out at number four.
After the dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan, both Pant and Iyer were seen walking towards the ground leaving everyone confused. Pant emerged from the sight screen whereas, Iyer was seen pacing out from the dugout. Both players were not aware of the situation until they saw each other. Later, Pant went in to join Kohli.
Kohli during the press conference did admit that there was a communication problem.
“The batting coach (Vikram Rathour) had a word with both of them and there was a misunderstanding about who had to go [out] at what stage of the game. It was a bit funny afterwards because they both wanted to walk in. It would have been very funny if both had reached the pitch. There was a miscommunication there. I understood it afterwards,” Kohli said after the match.
“We had it planned according to phases. After 10 overs we had decided Rishabh would walk in; before that Shreyas had to walk in. But both of them got confused and didn’t realize who has to walk in at what stage of the game,” He added.
According to the plan, it should have been Iyer because Dhawan got out in the 8th over. However, Pant walked in and managed to score 19 off 21 whereas, Iyer scored 5 off 8.
