Tokyo Olympics: New dates announced

Due to coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming Olympics has been postponed and is rescheduled to next year, to the exact time slot scheduled for this year’s games.

Tokyo organizers said on Monday the opening ceremony will take place on July 23, 2021 — almost exactly one year after the games were due to start this year.

This year’s games were scheduled to open on July 24 and close on August 9. But the near exact one-year delay will see the rescheduled closing ceremony on August 8.

Talking about the same, both Tokyo organizing committee president Yoshiro Mori and CEO Toshiro Muto said that the rescheduling will be massive and also promised that there will be transparency throughout the process.

The postponement of the date happened after the pressure from different countries which started to withdraw their participation from the games due to the coronavirus spread.

Meanwhile, Coronavirus has killed more than 35,000 people all around the world and more than 740,000 are still affected by the virus.
