Greater Chennai Corporation creates new Hashtag to address fakenews

Amidst the Greater Chennai Corporation has come up with a Hashtag in social media to address the issue of fake news.

The GCC announcement said that if the public is receiving any or circulating any sensitive WhatsApp forward messages about Chennai city, which they feel might be a rumour, they can send it to the GCC.

They have to share the message on social media with a hashtag #GCCMYTHBUSTERS. The corporation will fact-check the message and verify the authenticity of the information.

In the wake of COVID-19 outbreak, there are several reports coming in about the spread of fake news via WhatsApp. The measure taken by the Chennai Corporation is appreciable as they are trying to do their part in addressing the myths and unverified information that is passed-on in social media
