Can think about restarting cricket only when things get clearer: BCCI Treasurer on IPL 2020

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal was quoted saying that any decision on the fate of IPL will be taken only after cricket resumes.

The thirteenth season of Indian Premier League was supposed to begin on March 29, 2020. The league was postponed till April 15 initially and indefinitely later due to the Coronavirus outbreak. It is the first time in the history of the tournament that it would not be played during the Indian summer(April-May).

The Sydney Morning Herald, on Friday, quoted Arun Dhumal saying that they haven’t planned anything of now as they can’t think of IPL getting back.

He said that with the complications of players coming in from other countries with India lockdown they can’t think of IPL for now. “Players coming in from other countries, whether they’ll be willing to come here and be quarantined for two weeks and play IPL is not known. How can we think of IPL? This is all media speculation. There is nothing as of now. Once things get clear, then only will we be able to go back to the drawing board and think about re-starting cricket,” Dhumal added.

He added that every board will have a say in the player’s availability with the World Cup supposedly lined-up in September. “They will have been out of cricket for a long time. Would you want to be without training for that long and straight away go and play [the] World Cup? That is a call every board has to take. It seems to be difficult,” he said.
