Day 2, ENG v WI: Holder’s six puts visitors on top

After the rain took over the first day of cricket’s comeback, West Indies find themselves on top, thanks to Jason Holder.

The visiting captain wonderfully dismantled the batting order of the hosts by picking up six wickets and he was well supported by Gabriel who picked four wickets.

It was Gabriel who began the proceedings for the visitors much like the first day and got an early breakthrough. Then Holder picked up two wickets before the lunch.

Buttler and Stokes showed their class by adding a quick 50+ partnership and when one thought that England was on top, Holder came back to dismiss both the players before adding one more to his figures, to make it 6 for 42, his best ever.

Stokes would have become the first player to score a fifty on his captaincy debut while batting at number five, unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

While Bess and Anderson put on a tiny partnership in the end, Gabriel finished it off at 204.

The best part of the day was Holder’s DRS calls.

Batting next, Braithwaite and Campbell provided a good start under overcast conditions. However, Anderson broke the partnership by dismissing Campbell for 28. Again, DRS had to come in play.

Later, Hope and Braithwaite showed some intent and played well to keep their wickets as West Indies finished the day with 57 for 1. Weather once again played a poor role in reducing the overs.

It will be interesting see how England goes tomorrow. They will be hoping that Anderson or someone produces a similar performance just like Holder.
