India likely to pull out of tri-series due to increasing COVID19 cases

Indian women’s team is expected to pull out of the tri-series that is about to happen in England. South Africa is the other team involved in the series.

India’s tour to England was supposed to happen in June but was postponed due to COVID19.

Later, a tri-series was proposed. However, it is unlikely happen due to the current situation.

“The Covid-19 situation in the country is getting worse and worse, hence we had no option but to abandon our plans to send the team to England for a Tri-series that was to feature India, England and the South African women teams. We’ve conveyed our inability to come to UK to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) last week. In this situation, we can’t hold a camp even in England (as was decided earlier), as is there no clarity on when the regular commercial flights to London from India will resume,” a reliable source in the BCCI told TOI on Sunday.

Adding more, India is yet to set up a selection committee for the women’s cricket.

Five members of the previous committee led by Hemlata Kala have finished their term. BCCI began the hunt for the next selectors in January and began to accept candidates for interview. However, the board is yet to take a call. According to reports, more than 15 former women cricketers have applied for the job.

The England team consisting of 24 members began their practice weeks ago in a secure bubble and will be going ahead with the series even if India bows out. Keeping an eye on the upcoming World Cup, England will be concentrating more on the ODIs. The plan is to play 5 ODIs and 2 T20Is. However, nothing is confirmed yet.
