I’m still young, never thought of retiring: Jhulan Goswami

Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami is certainly the spearhead India will be needing when it comes to the 2021 World Cup.

Goswami, 37, has retired from the T20Is to concentrate on the ODIs, eventually to prepare for the World Cup, a crown that is missing from her illustrious career. Talking about her retirement, Goswami once again proved that age is just number, adding that she is still young and is looking forward for the World Cup.

“I am still young, have never thought of retiring. I am enjoying the game and would keep continuing. At heart, I am 27 or maybe the little ball girl with a dream. Will continue playing till I am enjoying the challenge in the middle and hopefully my body will permit me to do what my heart wants,” she told to India.com

She began her career when she was a teenager. She was inspired by Australian legend Fitzpatrick. In years, she went on to defeat her idol in the list of highest number of wickets in the ODIs.

After Goswami, Shikha Pandey is the next big pacer in the Indian team filled with spinners. Talking about where the Indian team is lacking when it comes to producing pacers, Goswami said that the country has promising pacers but they lack sound guidance.

“That is not the case – we have promising pacers, but again, they need proper infrastructure, regular camps, and sound guidance. Also, fast bowlers are not born overnight, it is a process and I am hopeful in the near future we will have a pool of seven to eight pacers, who can fit into the XI anytime we need them,” said Jhulan.

When asked about India’s chances in 2021, she said that she is hoping to lift the trophy. Adding more, she said that India did well in the recent ICC tournaments and winning the trophyin 2021 will be icing on the cake.

Goswami is one of the cricketers who will be getting her biopic soon. The biopic will star Anushka Sharma as the lead.

“It is a different feeling altogether – where I feel excited and happy and a little nervous. I am really looking forward to watching Anushka play me in reel life. I am sure she will do justice to the role,” she told.
