Petta: Got Rajinified

In the long career of the Superstar, people love him for many different reasons. Some for his acting, some for his mass and class, some for his humour and I can point out many things. To me and for most of his fans, it is all about the mass factor, something we all saw in movies like Baasha, Arunachalam, Padaiyappa so on.

All these movies released when I was too young and most of them I either missed watching in theatres or was too young to understand and enjoy them. Now while watching these movies repeatedly on Television, I feel bad. I’m sure I’m not alone here.

Lingaa was the last movie that had out and out Rajinism but there was something missing. In recent times, all his movies were the director’s movie and Rajinikanth, the actor excelled. Though I liked them, I wanted the same experience of movies like Baasha.

Karthik Subbaraj, a self-confessed Rajinikanth fan also felt the same I guess. He allowed the director in him to take a few back steps, and the fan in him took over. As a fan, he knew what his fellow fans would expect from a “typical Rajinikanth movie” and has given us the same with a bit of twist that adds freshness.

The way he plays cupid to Sananth and Megha Akash, the scenes with Bobby Simha, the way he romances Simran were super likeable. The antagonists Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vijay Sethupathi have done well, but I really did miss someone like Mark Antony, someone like Raghuvaran. The movie took time for me to get along.

On the whole, it was a great experience for the fan in me. I missed this Rajinikanth for a long time.
