After a long hiatus due to coronavirus pandemic, Australia and New Zealand are back and in their first game, Australia defeated their rivals convincingly. This is the team’s 6th consecutive win against their opponent.
Batting first, Australia had a sloppy start with New Zealand bowlers stepping up to take early wickets. Lanning and Haynes had starts but it was the knock of Gardner that changed the match completely. The all-rounder scored 61 from 41 balls to take the team to 138.
Devine was the star with the ball, she picked up three wickets.
In return, Green got out early and once again it was Devine and Bates who tried to take the team home.
The slow nature of the pitch and the length of Australian bowlers made it tougher for the team. Devine got out for a tricky 3rd umpire call whereas, Bates got out for 33.
Martin tried her best to keep the visitors in hunt by scoring 21 from 16 deliveries but it was just too much for the team as the run-rate kept ticking.
Schutt had four wickets, Kimmince had two and Jonassen had one for Australia.
A few credits must go to the fielding display of the hosts.
