Chennai teen Arjun is India’s 68th Grand Master

Arjun Kalyan has become the latest Grand Master from India.

He is the country’s 68th Grand Master and has achieved this feat during the ongoing GM round robin “Rujna Zora-3 2021” tournament at Arandjelovac in Serbia.

Kalyan, 18, is a B.Com student from Chennai. He went on to defeat GM Kosic Dragan of Montenegro in the fifth round to achieve this.

He needed 23 points to become GM before leaving to Serbia and with this win, he has achieved the feat.

This is not the first time Arjun has come closer to win the title. In the Rujna Zora-2 2021 tournament last week, he needed a win to become a GM but had missed it.

Talking to The Hindu, he said that he is relieved to achieve the title after coming close multiple times.
