Ashes, 2nd ODI: Australia extends their lead to 4-0 points

After winning the first match in a tight encounter, Australia convincingly pulled the second match off, thanks to Kimmince and the middle-order.

England was pushed to a back foot when they had to make Sarah Taylor sit out due to injury. Amy Jones replaced her for the match.

After opting to bat first, Perry stuck early for Australia as Amy Jones had to walk back for five runs. While Tammy Beaumont was playing freely, everyone around her struggled and failed to convert the starts they had and England fell for 217. If not for Beaumont’s first hundred in the Ashes, 117 off 115, England would have fallen terribly as the second-highest scorer for the team was 25 by Dani Wyatt.

England had no chance what so ever against Delissa Kimmince, who bowled beautifully to pick up five wickets. She was well supported by other bowlers as well.

In return, Australia had a sluggish start as well after losing both the openers quickly and the pressure was on the experienced campaigners Lanning and Perry to rebuild the innings. Lanning was playing well until an expert delivery from Brunt, a backhand slower delivery that completely deceived Lanning and went on to hit the stumps and that did excite Brunt, who then picked up an injury while celebrating the wicket.

After Lanning’s dismissal, England did saw a little opening, but Perry’s 62 and Haynes’s 30, Mooney’s 43, Jess Jonassen’s 31 took Australia home safe and to extend their lead in the Ashes.
