Former Indian cricketer VB Chandrasekhar passed away by commiting suicide on Thursday in Chennai. He was 57.

V B Chandrasekhar’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom on the first floor at his Chennai residence.

The Inspector who investigated the case said that there was no suicidal note. Chandrasekhar’s wife told the police that she had knocked at the door of his room but there was no response. She then peeped through the window to find him hanging from the ceiling.

Earlier, the national selectors confirmed to media that the former cricketer died of heart attack but now, the police has confirmed that he had commited suicide.

He was a hard-hitting opener and played a crucial role in Tamil Nadu’s historic Ranji Trophy win in 1988. He held the record for fastest hundred (from 56 deliveries) by an Indian in the First-class cricket when he scored 119 against Rest of India in the Irani Trophy.

After retiring, he was associated with the cricket in a way or two. He also was the selector of BCCI for a brief time, owned VB Kanchi Veerans team in the TNPL, was a commentator as well.

His famous stint was with Chennai Super Kings where he served as the manager for the first three years. He played a key role in bringing MS Dhoni to Chennai Super Kings.

Always a smiling face, VB loved indulging in conversations and used to share his knowledge with young journalists. He always loved meeting the young writers with chai and biscuits. More than his other stints, his inspiring speeches to the young writers will be missed.

Go well, Sir!
