England v West Indies proposed Test schedule released

The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced the proposed schedule for the Test series against West Indies which is subject to clearance of the government.

The three-match Test series is scheduled to start on July 8 at Ageas Bowl, followed by July 16 and 24 at the Old Trafford.

The series between England and West Indies would mark the resumption of international cricket since the sport was put to halt due to the Coronavirus outbreak in March this year.

The ECB has said that the matches would be played under closed environment and all the other safety protocols would be adhered to.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the West Indies team is expected to arrive on June 8 and would be quarantined for three weeks at the Old Trafford stadium.

The venues were selected based on the attached accommodation facilities they have. Edgbaston is kept as a contingency venue if things go wrong.

The England bowlers have begun individual training last week at the venues, and the batsmen have started training this week . Steve Elworthy, the ECB’s director of special operations, said that providing a safe environment to all the people is the objective.

“We are in daily dialogue with government and our medical team, who have been incredibly supportive during this period,” Elworthy said. “These are our proposed dates, and they remain subject to UK Government approval.”
