IPL Preview | Mumbai Indians

One of the most successful teams of the IPL, Mumbai Indians for sure will look to win their fourth title. The Mumbai Indians under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma has really done well and has produced some of the best players for the Indian team. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are two of them.

This is how Mumbai Indians operate. In fact, the whole IPL itself. They bring in talents from nowhere and within a season, they would become a huge star.

Can they become the first time to win the IPL for four times?

Strengths:

  1. With no doubts, the major strength this time around for the team would be their captain Rohit Sharma opening the batting for the team. Rohit Sharma has owned the opening spot in the Indian team for years now and that is where he should play in the IPL. This allows him to free his arms more and make it easy for his team.
  2. The ability of Suryakumar Yadav to play according to the situation. Rohit Sharma can make Yadav open the innings, can send him down the order and still, he will perform.
  3. The huge bunch of all-rounders starting from Pandya brothers to Pollard is definitely a big plus.
  4. Mumbai Indians is one of the better fielding sides. We have seen some spectacular catches in past years and this will be vital for sure. After all, runs saved is runs scored.
  5. Every single batsman in the team is a power-hitter, unlike other teams. They have the ability to win matches from nowhere.
  6. The inclusion of Yuvraj Singh do give them the amount of experience the Mumbai team needs. As Zaheer Khan said, there is no better batsman than Yuvraj Singh to hold the team together at number four. Hopefully, he performs well.
  7. The bowling attack of Jasprit Bumrah and Beherndorff. Two of the frontline pacers hold the key for the team along with McClenaghan. No matter what, Bumrah by far is the better bowler in this format.

Weakness:

  1. With no Adam Milne and with Malinga not playing the first six games, a lot depends on Cutting, Bumrah and Beherndorff.
  2. Unlike the other teams, Mumbai Indians will have a tough time in selecting their playing XI, especially when it comes to the overseas players.
Cutting, Lewis, de Kock, Pollard, McClenaghan, Beherndorff.
  3. Last year, Mumbai struggled in almost all the matches whenever the openers failed. The middle-order looked vulnerable despite having a great team. With the inclusion of players like Yuvraj Singh, can the team overcome the issue?

Probable XI:
Rohit Sharma
Evin Lewis/ Ben Cutting
Ishan Kishan / Quinton de Kock
Yuvraj Singh
Suryakumar Yadav
Hardik Pandya
Krunal Pandya
Kieron Pollard/ Lasith Malinga (after six games)
Jason Behrendorff/ Mitchell McClenaghan
Jasprit Bumrah
Mayank Markande
