"Batting with Sachin was a memorable moment" - Amit Mishra on his Test career

Recalling good memories from his Test career, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the IPL said that the partnership he had with Sachin Tendulkar against England at Kennington Oval in 2011 was the most memorable one.

It was the fourth and final Test of the series and India were already 0-3 down. Mishra played handy knocks with the bat at The Oval.

Following up the 43 he made in the first innings, Mishra scored a crucial 84 in the second. It was all the more significant as he was giving company to Tendulkar who was on his pursuit of the hundredth century. Tendulkar was dismissed at 91 and India lost the match by an innings and eight runs.

Speaking on an Instagram live session with Delhi Capitals, Mishra recalled that the partnership he had with Sachin as “one of the most memorable moments” of his Test career.

“I am really proud to have batted with Sachin paji. I think it was one of the most memorable moments of my Test career. We were playing against England in the 2011 tour, and I had scored 43 in the first innings,” he said.

Walking in as a nightwatchman, Mishra had to build a partnership with Sachin as India were trying to avoid an innings defeat. “Sachin guided me through the innings,” he said. “It was important for us to get through the morning session, and I ended up scoring 84, while paji made 91. However, I was also really gutted that we lost the match,” he added.

Interestingly, for someone who is predominantly a bowler to pick a performance with the bat as one of the most memorable moment tells a bit about the kind of career Amit Mishra had.
