COVID19: Children dig well to combat water crisis

Water scarcity in India during summer is not a new issue. Kukkavu area of Belthangady town in Dakshina Kannada district is already facing scarcity and it forced school-going kids to take the matter in their hands.

A group of five kids decided to use the lockdown period wisely and managed to dig a well as deep as 12 feet within four days.

” We are facing water problem now. With the support of my five more friends, we dug this well. At the beginning we just found soil, then in the deeper layers, we also found stones. We got access to the water at 10 feet down,” said Dhanush, a class 9th student, while speaking to ANI.

Every year, during this time, the kids were forced to carry water from long distance.
